OK, so. Finished my first run. Gotta admit I'm not 100% satisfied with some endings. BUT NO BIGGIE, THAT'S WHAT HEADCANONS ARE FOR, DON'T WORRY I GOT A PERMIT (i'm a Dungeon Master) SO LET'S GO, HC TIME D&D STYLE BC WE STILL GOT 8 LEVELS TO GO: (spoilers for BG3 and Descent Into Avernus going forward)

They'd all stay together and continue to go on adventures, the 9 of them, Tav, Lae'zel, Shadowheart, Gale, Astarion, Wyll, Karlach, Halsin and Minthara. Found Families stay together. (I do enjoy the polyship aspect too, so just throwing it out there)

There's an exchange you can have ingame with an NPC in the Guild and Tav will say the party's name is Wormskulls and I love it. I do also love Tadfools. Maybe they are Wormskulls to the general public and Tadfools to their close friends and allies lol. After the tadpoles are gone I think it would be very useful for them to commission earrings enchanted with Rary's Telepathic Bond. Less invasive than a mindflayer tadpole and just as useful. Also symbolic for Gale. I think the earring would have a pendant of a skull with a serpent coming out of its eye and being bitten by the teeth.

OK SO, my girl Karlach. I haven't romanced her yet, gonna do a run for that. But she's not dying on my watch. She's going back to Avernus, BUT YOU CAN BE SO SURE THAT THE MOMENT THE WHOLE PARTY IS READY WE'RE KICKING DOWN ZARIEL'S DOOR AND KICKING HER ASS. Or giving her her sword back and possibly turning her back into an Angel, something that whatever party of adventurers that managed to save BG and Elturel in Descent Into Avernus CLEARLY didn't do, it would probably not only nullify Mizora's contract with Wyll bc Zariel is now a completely different entity, if you decided to redo Wyll's contract with her, but also would give us a better chance of Zariel taking the infernal engine out of Karlach herself. Maybe turning Wyll into a Devotion Paladin? (more details about Zariel here)

I'd ask Jaheira and Minsc to take care of Scratch and Albie (owlbear cub) because the Hells is no place for pets. Even very brave ones. Maybe Halsin's "ending" fits here, taking care of the pets and the kids while everyone goes to Avernus, they leave him with a Sending Stone. And when they are back he's there waiting for them. 🥺

If we saved Duke Ravengard and broke Wyll's contract. (or didn't but are hcing that we broke his contract by defeating/unmaking Zariel) what does that mean to Wyll? I think it be super cool to go more in depth about it. How does he reconsile with his father? Does he accept to be reinstated as heir and becomes the Duke right away or does he think it's best for his father to continue his role a bit longer? Does he even want to be Duke or does he think he can serve the people of the Sword Coast better as an adventurer? If he turns into a Duke, what sort of benefit does that give an adventuring party?

Finding something to make Astarion able to walk in the sun again I've seen people talk about the Ring of the Sun-Walker as if it's from the 5e books, it's not, it's homebrew. HOWEVER, any freaking DM with a heart would create something similar for their player to continue playing without being afraid of dying instantly bc of the sun. The Cloak of Dragomir is canon to the Baldur's Gate videogame universe, so it be a good tie in, but it would be a temporary solution at best since it penalizes the player quite harshly, Strength: -6, Dexterity: -4, Intelligence: -2, Wisdom: -2, Charisma: -4 and Vampire Regeneration divided by 3, to 1 HP per 3 rounds. That being said, I wouldn't make it TOO easy to obtain as there are other ways for Astarion to be safe, like the Darkness spell. It would be interesting to see him (and Tav) struggle a little bit more, really feel the sacrifice Astarion made by rejecting the Ascendance even after they find something to combat the Sunlight Hypersensitivity.

Astarion's biological family would be something very interesting to explore in the future. They would be Elves themselves and are most likely still alive, we even have a surname thanks to people analyzing the shit out of that tombstone: Ancunín. As a DM I wouldn't wait for a player to decide to search for these people, I'd throw them at the players! Strolling through the Upper City in a quick shopping trip? You hear a loud gasp, things clattering and bumping into the ground, hurried desperate steps and then someone sobbing "Astarion?? Astarion is that you?!" What do you do?

Visiting Waterdeep and Morena Dekarios. This woman deserves to see her son again, and Gale deserves to finally go back home and see his mom without the burden of an ancient artifact lodged in his chest and a goddess wanting him to kill himself. Would he stay? I'm not sure, he went through an entire Odissey and maybe now home, although pleasant, is not as comforting anymore. Waterdeep is the element of Gale of Waterdeep and he's not him anymore. I think this would be a great premise for a roleplay focused arc. Gale is invited to the Blackstaff Ball for the first time since Mystra shunned him, the Wormskulls are famous now, The New Heros of Baldur's Gate (Gala Episode anyone? All of them SLAYIN with their fits? Poor Halsin totally out of his element). He's once again welcomed into the society of the Lord Mage of Waterdeep and his peers seem to have all but forgotten he was ever a pariah. Is that what he wants?

And Waterdeep has many opportunities for more adventure.

Kill the Lich Queen (CLASSIC D&D). Vlaakith IS FINISHED. TIME TO SPELLJAM AND BE SPACE PIRATES YALL. Lae'zel deserves to see this through to the END.

Shadowheart goes through another journey to find out if she wants to truly embrace Selûne or maybe become another thing entirely. Selûne should reach out or Isobel and Dame Aylin would help her out. Or maybe Shadowheart is tired of being a Cleric and following a god. But change and inconsistency is something that is under Selûne's portfolio, she's often followed by those who are lost, so I think she'd find more than fitting for Shadowheart to be a cautious and weary follower of her.

Your Tav's personal stuff. The Dark Urge sounds amazing and I can't wait to do a run with them, but I think most of us got very attached to our Original Characters Do No Steal. So I'm excited to see what people come up with for their Tavs. Otessa, my Tav, doesn't know her dad was a pirate, he never told her, so I expect that his past will come bite him in the ass and she'll have to help him out of that pickle.

When the party has reached level 17, Gale has access to the Wish spell. And I really do think they'd use it to get rid of Astarion's undeath. As a DM I wouldn't let Gale simply get the spell outright, he'd have to research it. Not only that, I don't think Astarion would be totally free of undeath, some remnant of it would linger, he'd probably turn into an Elf that needs blood to survive and is forever locked out of the Call of Arvandor or something. But he'd be mortal and would be able to walk in the sun without that ring, cross bodies of water, wouldn't instadie from pointy wood objects in the chest etc. (i'm writing a little one-shot about this, should post it soon)

BIO.

rumored to be half high fae half water-wraith, a witch of alluring charms that had used her abilities to seduce the high lord of the summer court, ambitious, selfish, and brilliant. lady viela knew birthing a dragomir off spring would set her up for life. and so her belly swelled with what would come to be julissa, the stories spun that she had created the babe from the very sea foam of the summer coasts.

big eyed with a rich brown colored that almost border lined red did nothing to defuse the tails of witchcraft in her veins, her mother only relished in the stories, used them to keep them both safe and out of reach from the enemies of the high lord of the summer. she decided it was her and her daughter alone for the days to come, her relationship with julissa father might as well have died the day of her birth, raised along the other children but separate as well, sheltered by her mother who would encourage her to be whoever she wished and unapologetically about it.

julissa grey like a tsunami, she was noticed and heard anywhere she went, never to be a quiet one nor one to care what others thought, she voiced her thoughts without any kind of apology. hard to keep in one place she slipped through peoples fingers as if she had been water herself only to reappear hours latter behaving as if nothing had happened. the behavior never improved, it only worsened with the years and as she got older the boundaries of how far she could go and how long she could disappear only grey, pushing and pushing with each time until the youngest daughter of summer would be gone for months at a time only to reappear once again.

being named emissary was given to her as a way to reel her back in to the court when she was gone for too long, however she enjoyed the position as it did give her more free range to come and go from territory to territory. she takes the tittle as seriously as julissa dragomir can take things, which is not saying a lot. but she attempts to do well by her sister as she is loyal to her regardless of her own short comings.

Hello, Janilee! Hope you're doing well 💖 It's been awhile since I receive an asks for the ask game so I'm going to try my best to answer it. Since there are no specifications about which from the main ocs or if it's Primis or Ultimis, I will add both of them instead!

The questions are:

💛 (yellow heart) - What's your character's thoughts about friendship? Do they have a lot of friends? What do they like about their friends?

🌙 (cresent moon) - Does your character have a moral code or a set of rules they have for themselves? If so, what made them adopt these morals or ideals? If not, why?

Valena

💛: Both Ultimis and Primis have friends that they can rely on. They considered friendship as a found family, a family that they feel like they belong there. A family that they can put their trust on and share their feelings and struggles.

🌙: Both also have their own moral codes/set of rules that they always follow. Their top 1 rule is to "Always believe in yourself". Even if they struggled to survive, they still continue to believe in themselves that they can get through any hardships in amidst of chaos.

Ji Eun

💛: Ultimis has some friends with her that she could trust despite being shy around them. Like Valena, she considers friendship as a found family that she is comfortable to share her thoughts, feelings, and many more. Primis, on the other hand, somehow has fewer friends compared to her Ultimis counterpart. She is more cautious about making friends due to her past and the rumor of Ji eun being the daughter of her mother and a different father. Her perspective of friendship is somehow about trust but there are uncertainties of when will that friendship last as she can sense betrayal in those types of things. In Ji eun's case, they must earn her trust first before she could befriend them.

🌙: Both have suffered from their own respective struggles, with Ultimis being harassed and becoming a comfort woman during WW2 and Primis struggling with discrimination against the Japanese and experiencing existential crisis about her life. But, both Ultimis and Primis have their own moral codes and either of them follows the saying "Never give up". With their lives in shambles and on a brink of losing hope, they still have the courage to carry on despite the obstacles they are facing.

Arthur

💛: Both Ultimis and Primis considered their friends as brothers in arms and a family. According to them, friendship is all about the memories that you have with your friends as you can reminisce them together. Primis has doubts about his friendship with his best friends if they will last longer like they have promised him. But Archie (Primis) knows that he cam trust his friends that their friendship will last longer than they would expected to be.

🌙: Both has their respective moral codes that they follow. "Love yourself" is one of their favorite rules that they always have in mind. They may tend to be harsh on themselves, but since this rule is also an advice from their mothers, they kept repeating it until both Ultimis and Primis feels much better from all the self depreciation that the have inflicted on themselves.

Dragomir

💛: Like Arthur and Valena, Miro (Primis) tends to see his friends or simply about friendship, focuses about trust, memories, family, and many more. But with Ultimis, he once have friends before until he lost all of them because of WW2 and his emotions fading. He didn't considered his allies as friends as this would give him the memories of his lost friends. But, Drago (Ultimis) considered friendship as companionship to one another even if he lost them in the past.

🌙: Ultimis' moral code is only to survive. After he lost his loved ones, he lost the feeling of every single emotions that he once have which there's a possibility he is experiencing alexithymia due to his PTSD being triggered. But, Drago wants to feel those emotions again, even if it means having the courage to approach someone who can help him with his problem. Primis on the other hand, also has morals that he follows like everyone else. Being responsible and understanding are one of his main morals that he uses in his life.

SAINT OF THE DAY (September 28)

On September 28, the Catholic Church honors Saint Wenceslaus, a Central European ruler who died at the hands of his brother while seeking to strengthen the Catholic faith in his native Bohemia.

During his 2009 visit to the Czech Republic, Pope Benedict XVI called the country's patron saint “a martyr for Christ who had the courage to prefer the kingdom of heaven to the enticement of worldly power.”

St. Wenceslaus was born around the year 903. His father, Duke Wratislaw, was a Catholic, but his mother, Princess Dragomir, practiced the native pagan religion.

She would later arrange the murders of both Wenceslaus and his grandmother Ludmilla, who is also a canonized saint.

During his youth, Wenceslaus received a strong religious education from Ludmilla, in addition to the good example of his father.

He maintained a virtuous manner of living while attending college near Prague, making significant progress both academically and spiritually.

But with the death of his father Wratislaw, the devout young nobleman faced a spiritual and political crisis.

His mother Dragomir, who had never accepted the Catholic faith, turned against it entirely.

She seized her husband's death as a chance to destroy the religion his parents had received from Saints Cyril and Methodius, through methods that included purging Catholics from public office, closing churches, and preventing all teaching of the faith.

Dragomir's Catholic mother-in-law Ludmilla urged Wenceslaus to seize power from his mother and defend their faith.

His attempt to do so resulted in the division of the country into two halves: one ruled by Wenceslaus, advised by Ludmilla; the other ruled by Wenceslaus' younger brother Boleslaus, who had absorbed his mother's hatred of the Church.

Wenceslaus, who would have preferred to become a monk and not a duke, fortified himself in this struggle through fervent prayer, extreme asceticism, charitable service, and a vow of chastity.

Meanwhile, his mother carried out a plot to kill Ludmilla, having her strangled in her private chapel.

St. Ludmilla's liturgical feast day is September 16.

The Bohemian duke also faced the threat of invasion from abroad, when Prince Radislaus of Gurima demanded that Bohemia submit to his rule.

When Wenceslaus sought to avoid a war by challenging him in single combat, two angels are said to have appeared, deflecting the javelin thrown at Wenceslaus, and immediately inspiring Radislaus to drop to his knees in surrender.

During his period of rule, Wenceslaus received the relics of several saints from the Holy Roman Emperor Otto I, who also conferred on him the title of “King Wenceslaus.”

However, some noblemen of his own country resented the saintly king's strict morals and allied themselves with Dragomir and Boleslaus.

Wenceslaus' brother sought to appear as a peacemaker, inviting the king to his realm for a celebration.

When Wenceslaus was praying in a chapel during the visit, Boleslaus' henchmen attacked and wounded him.

Boleslaus himself delivered the final blow, killing his brother by running him through with a lance.

St. Wenceslaus died on 28 September 935.

Emperor Otto responded to St. Wenceslaus' death by invading Bohemia and making war against Boleslaus for several years.

He succeeded in conquering the region and forced Boleslaus to reverse the anti-Catholic measures he and his mother had taken.

There is no evidence that Dragomir, who died soon after the murder of St. Wenceslaus, ever repented of killing her family members.

Boleslaus, however, came to regret his sin when he learned of the miracles that were taking place at his brother's tomb.

He moved St. Wenceslaus' body to a cathedral for veneration by the faithful.

Xiu (Wei): He sees Lena as his big sister, since he never had one. She's kind and caring to him, so he listens to her the most. As for Ji Eun, he's kinda afraid of her. Constantly getting yelled at because of his reckless behavior, but he still respect her. He isn't the most fond of Arthur for pulling pranks on him, but he gets him back sometimes so its mutual. He sometimes gets babysit by Dragomir, which he doesn't enjoy but still see him as a big brother.

YuLan: She calms whenever Lena is around, although they don't tend to talk much, she feels safe around her. Ji Eun is like her spirit animal, the similarities between them made her very comfortable around. She sees Arthur as a tall guy, but also a gentle giant to her. Dragomir and YuLan don't tend to talk a lot either, but she cares for him and sees him as a good ally.

Viktoriya: She loves seeing another woman who like science (Lena is a medic, while Vik is a chemist). She also find Lena amusing to tease whenever she asks question about Nikolai. She treats Ji Eun with respect, mostly to avoid getting called names. She sometimes loves to joke around with Arthur, she loves talking to him. Vik is always happy when Dragomir asks questions about her and Nikolai, always willing to listen.

James: He seemingly respects Lena, he enjoys talking to her, sharing stories about each other. He sometimes enjoy teasing Ji Eun, getting brave to joke around the little grumpy bean, but deep down, he enjoys her company. Seeing Arthur made him more confident to work on the investigation, he felt happier seeing another British fighting along with him. He would sometimes share his latest findings with Dragomir, mostly because he asks lots of questions and James loves questions.

"touche."  a  deep  laugh  is  pulled  from  the  commander,  the  other  wasn't  wrong  and  it  was  a  title  he  wore  well  with  pride.  one  might  imagine  that  after  the  months  he  had  fully  ran  the  day  court  while  his  best  friend  grieving  mught  have  added  fuel  to  his  ego,  but  it  hadn't.  it  did,  however,  humble  alistair  because  he  had  realized  the  tremendous  amount  of  work  it  took,  even  with  an  entire  inner  circle.  it  certainly  made  the  eldest  hightower  admire  his  late  high  lord,  and  his  best  friend.  together,  the  pair  of  best  friends,  as  boys  had  been  an  unstoppable  force,  until  their  fathers  came  down  on  them  entirely  when  they  went  a  bit  too  far.  as  ced  grew,  and  was  expected  to  be  the  ruler  of  day,  he  had  certainly  mellowed  out,  but  alistair,  on  the  other  remained  steadfast,  a  trait  not  loosened  when  declan  came  into  their  lives.  "i  suppose  if  handled  two,  what's  a  third?"  in  some  ways,  the  younger  lord  of  day  took  the  title  of  mischievous  entirely.  it  was  far  easier  for  declan  to  do  as  he  pleased  and  for  late  high  lord  to  look  the  other  way,  as  opposed  to  ced  who  would  be  his  heir.  "since  he  couldn't  always  allow  you  to  do  as  you  please,  he  could  with  your  brother."  he  smirks,  "oh,  that  goes  without  saying.  one  of  many  tedious  task  you  pile  onto  my  plate,  and  what's  my  payment?  constantly  worrying  for  you?"  he  jests,  but  there's  a  note  of  truth  in  the  tail  end  of  his  words.  it  had  been  a  constant  thing  since  ced's  attachment  to  another  ruler.  "they  can,  he  has  a  lot  of  them  that  require  filtering  through,  but  adding  a  costumed  hallow's  eve  event  isn't  bad.  the  quieter  months  after  sun  solistice  can  be  occupied  by  this.  it  will  certainly  appease  the  other  nobles  of  our  court."  not  that  they  held  any  complaints  either,  but  as  a  token  of  gratitude,  they  couldn't  go  wrong.  "on  occasion."  he  amends  before  he  misses  his  mark,  and  on  que  the  high  lord  turns  with  a  shit-eating  grin.  "i  don't  like  that  word,  i'd  say  a  determined  looser.  the  game's  not  over  yet."  he  waits  allowing  ced  his  turn,  mulling  over  his  thoughts  and  what  he  wanted  to  say  to  the  other  he'd  been  keeping  to  himself.  it  wasn't  that  alistair  didn't  wish  for  his  best  friend  to  know  of  his  involvement  with  nerina,  but  the  other  also  had  enough  on  his  plate  -  of  how  they'd  return  home,  the  worry  for  his  children,  and  now  alistair  suspected  his  growing  feelings  for  the  high  lady.  cedrian  didn't  say  it  in  words  but  he  was  the  other's  best  friend  and  knew  him  well.  "i  did  learn  a  bit  more  of  our  allies."  he  begins,  "lady  nerina  isn't  entirely  forthcoming  of  her  siblings  ,  but  what  little  she  offered,  it's  not  to  hard  to  piece  together.  a  high  priestess  as  the  eldest,  should  have  been  the  high  ruler,  but  it  went  to  the  younger.  there's  a  strange  occurrence  in  the  dragomirs  or  perhaps  summer  as  a  whole,  in  the  past  some  generations,  the  high  rulers  have  never  been  the  first  child  chosen.  they  do  not  strike  me  as  particularly  close  as  you'd  imagine."  there  were  these  strange  looks  that  crossed  nerina's  gaze  often  times  whenever  he'd  mention  her  home  or  even  inquire  about  her  childhood  that  certainly  made  him  wish  she'd  speak  more  of.  it  was  not  for  him  to  pass  into  his  high  lord,  more  than  it  was  for  the  commander  to  know  of  nerina  further.  coupled  with  the  cryptic  remarks  she  slipped  in.

"  you  certainly  fit  the  bill  for  one  with  an  outstanding  ego.  "  he  teases  back.  it's  like  things  have  always  been  between  the  best  friends,  like  brothers  who  shared  no  blood  but  too  similar  to  be  anything  but.  everything  was  a  competition,  but  it  was  always  in  good  fun.  while  they  were  not  without  flaw,  ced  couldn't  imagine  that  anything  would  ever  truly  come  between  the  pair  of  them.  but  while  cedrian  had  shifted  a  bit,  and  learned  to  not  be  so  overtly  prideful,  alistair  still  radiated  the  trait.  their  childhood  had  been  marked  with  plenty  of  trouble,  lectures  from  his  father  in  no  shortage  of  what  they  had  gotten  up  to.  but  cedrian  had  needed  his  oldest  friend,  he  would  have  gone  insane  without  the  other  and  certainly  not  been  here  as  strong  as  he  was  now.  cedrian  owed  quite  a  lot  to  alistair,  and  he  was  certain  he  would  never  be  able  to  repay  the  other  for  what  he'd  done  in  his  life.  a  shrug  rolls  off  his  shoulders  at  the  mention  of  how  spoiled  declan  was.  "  i  think  he  came  hardwired  for  this  behavior.  "  but  alistair  was  right,  cedrian's  dad  had  always  doted  on  dec  and  allowed  him  plenty  of  leeway.  he'd  only  been  hard  on  cedrian  as  he  was  expected  to  rule  next,  the  rest  of  the  siblings  enjoyed  his  warmer  side.  declan  had  been  a  welcome  addition  to  the  family,  making  them  whole  in  a  way  ced  hadn't  realized  they  needed  more  members.  a  chuckle  rolls  off  of  the  high  lord,  and  he  offers  a  toothy  grin  towards  the  other.  "  you're  the  best  fit  for  the  job.  "  it's  not  true,  or  entirely  untrue,  but  either  way  it  is  his  pleasure  as  the  high  lord  to  toss  the  job  onto  his  commander.  "  his  ideas  might  benefit  the  court.  besides,  babysitting  him  is  quite  important.  "  he  teases.  truly,  there  were  few  capable  of  handling  the  job,  but  his  commander  would  always  be  well  fit.  "  i  am  quite  humble  when  called  for.  "  he  boasts,  grinning  as  he  watches  his  friend  take  his  turn.  cedrian  clicks  his  tongue  when  alistair  misses,  but  doesn't  way  much  else.  it's  not  until  the  other  turns  to  him  that  his  grin  widens.  "  you  are  a  poor  loser.  "

Growing up as the only child to noble parents, her idyllic childhood was abruptly shattered by their murders. Driven straight to the Movement, she dueled the old king and slayed him in single combat, becoming Kingslayer. Now, she is faced with the reality that the country she helped save is now endangered from those she had once called friends.

Growing up in the isolated, tight-knit enathi court, Iravazyilanae did not think too much outside of their people. But then they meet Alessa at the spring renewal festival and get drawn into a plot to track down a few missing enath. They grow closer along the way, between journeying together and avoiding outright death. Realizing that the life of the enath outside of the courts can prove demoralizing and deadly, they seek to help wherever they can - even if that means alienating their new friend.

Having joined the Movement at fourteen, Ludhos Náotia Nállat is now a judiciary officer in the new republic. Desperate to prove themself in whatever means necessary, they will outshine everyone else and bring a golden age to their country. Lawful, or otherwise. When an opportunity comes up to help build a new railroad by way of unpaid labor, they help in whatever means necessary. Who cares for a few missing enath, after all?

Helping rebuild the country after the Movement, Dherán Ándarre Tharelat silently assumed the office of Prime Minister, cannily volunteering his allies into the Senate. Of course, he could afford a few... moral mistakes along the way, so long as it solidified his power and control. No one can challenge him now.

Madelyn Sage's name history isn't that dramatic but I'll include it anyway. As I've said before she was my first ever next gen OC. Can't remember when I came up with her but it was probably like 2015-2016. She was originally named Madeleine. When I started creating all my other OCs I decided to change it to Madelene though tbh I don't remember why. But I went to highschool with someone named Madelene and people were always reading out her name wrong so I changed the spelling to Madelyn to try and counteract that lol.

Alma Rosemarie was initially Christina Rosemarie. I think. Maybe it was the other way around but it was definitely Christina somewhere. But I really like the name Alma and that's Lissa's paternal grandmother so I changed it.

Alexander Eric went through so many name changes lmao. At first he was Ivan Eric, because I read about a trope where the youngest son in Russian fairytales is always called Ivan. I really liked it but then I settled on Ivana's name so I was like hmm I need to change this but I couldn't figure out what to. I was tossing between Daniel or Alexander for quite a while, Daniel being for Lissa's mother and Alexander for the Queen Alexandra they keep yapping about in LS. But Daniel felt too casual lol so I went with Alex. (Like 'Lord Dan' or 'Lord Alex'? One sounds more regal than the other lol)

Ivana Vasilisa was always going to be named after Lissa, because Rose and Dimitri literally wouldn't be alive without her so they wanted to name their child after her. So originally she was named Vasya (with no middle name I think) but it just didn't feel right. I kept thinking about how Lissa didn't like her full name and that if this kid had the Russian nickname she'd probably hate that too eventually. So I went oh well it can be her middle name then but Vasilisa not Vasya. And I picked Ivana as her first name for Ivan Zeklos. It turns out that Ivana isn't actually the feminine form of Ivan in Russian but I'm too set on it now and love Ivy as a nickname lol. But of course Ivana is six years older than Alex so I had to go and change his name because that's just poor world building to have two characters with such similar names. Oopsie.

Bulgaria's main ruling alliance has responded to a Russian gas cutoff by abandoning the hesitancy that has kept that Black Sea state from supplying military aid to Ukraine, capping off two days of political messaging with visiting Prime Minister Kiril Petkov declaring outside the Ukrainian capital that it would be "inhuman to remain uninvolved" as Russia's invasion unfolds.

After Gazprom suspended natural gas supplies to Bulgaria and Poland amid escalating fallout from the 8-week-old war, Petkov and his We Continue The Change alliance vowed on April 27 that all 67 of its lawmakers will back military assistance for Kyiv in a vote expected early next month.

The provision of such aid would align Sofia more closely with most of its NATO allies -- Hungary aside.

But it will also deepen a rift over Ukraine and Russia with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, a retired general and air force commander who has suggested that arming either side merely prolongs the fighting.

"The rhetoric we have been hearing for several months is 'Don't give military aid to Ukraine so that peace comes sooner,'" Petkov said during a quickly organized visit to Kyiv and its environs on April 28 to demonstrate support for Ukraine's defenders. "If this is the price of peace, if the Russian state continues to [attack] and no one has the opportunity to defend itself, then do we want this peace?"

Petkov had warned alongside a senior party colleague in Sofia a day earlier against siding with "aggressor" Russia instead of Kyiv and said "internal circles" in Bulgaria had been fomenting division since the eight-week-old Ukraine war began.

Bulgaria is a member of the European Union and NATO.

Energy 'Blackmail'

Russia suspended gas deliveries to Poland and Bulgaria on April 27 over ruble-denominated payments amid massive international financial sanctions to punish Russian President Vladimir Putin's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

While not expected to cut as deeply as it would in other EU countries more reliant on Russian gas, such as Germany or Italy, Moscow's announcement represented Putin's most significant action of the war on European energy markets.

Sofia, Warsaw, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have described it as energy "blackmail."

Petkov assured Bulgarians that Gazprom's actions won't lead to any gas cutoffs to consumers and stressed that he is coordinating with EU partners.

Von der Leyen has said both Poland and Bulgaria are getting gas from neighboring countries.

Petkov's liberal government has curbed many long-running ties to Russia since taking over in December 2021. Since Putin's troops invaded nearby Ukraine, the government has welcomed an increased NATO presence, including a new deployment of fighter jets at a base on its Black Sea coast.

Sofia has also supported Western political and economic sanctions and other nonmilitary measures to punish Russian actions in Ukraine, whose southern border extends to within 200 kilometers of Bulgarian territory.

Bulgaria already hoped to eliminate its Russian gas deliveries by the end of the year, when Bulgargaz's current long-term contract concludes. A gas pipeline from neighboring Greece is due to be finished in June.

Petkov said on April 27 that Russia had for years treated EU and NATO member Bulgaria like a "fifth column."

On April 28, the Bulgarian prime minister traveled to Ukraine and visited the Borodyanka region where evidence since a Russian retreat has compounded international fears of Russian atrocities against civilians in the town of Bucha and other places.

Petkov's delegation -- which included Defense Minister Dragomir Zakov and several lawmakers but no one from the junior coalition partner, the Socialist Party (BSP) -- delivered helmets and body armor as part of its assistance to Ukraine.

Petkov was scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, whose government this week challenged Sofia anew to "take a stand" and deliver weapons to Ukraine and support Kyiv's accelerated EU bid.

Speaking in the town of Irpin, outside Kyiv, Petkov pledged that Bulgaria would "provide all the help necessary."

He said Bulgarians and the rest of Europe must be "stronger" and "tough," including finding alternative sources of fuel and energy.

The Bulgarian National Assembly returns from Easter holidays on May 4 and the junior coalition Democratic Bulgaria party has said it will immediately introduce a proposal on military and other assistance for Ukraine.

Clashes With The President

The We Continue The Change pledge suggests there could be sufficient support in the resulting vote, although several parties have yet to fully commit to a "yes."

Petkov and We Continue The Change co-founder, Assen Vassilev, assured reporters at their April 27 press conference that their support for military aid to Ukraine would not disintegrate the ruling coalition, which took over after months of political crisis spanning two inconclusive elections.

President Radev won reelection in a vote held alongside the November 2021 parliamentary vote, and he has repeatedly clashed publicly with Petkov.

After the Gazprom cutoff, he demanded that Petkov's government "answer some questions" about Poland and Bulgaria being singled out by Russia.

Radev called the gas interruption "a real test of European solidarity" and expressed "bewilderment at how the economy minister will explain to Bulgarians and leftists, who have always been against wars, that Bulgarian weapons fuel the conflict."

Only Hungary, whose Prime Minister Viktor Orban has emerged as Putin's strongest ally within the European Union, and Germany's main Russian gas importer, have so far flat-out agreed to Putin's terms for ruble-based payments for gas.

The Bulgarian coalition's Socialists, a party of many former Communists with pro-Russian sentiments, has said it opposes sending weapons to Ukraine as it would make Bulgaria a party to the conflict.

But a handful of opposition parties have hinted at their approval of such a measure.

NATO countries are treading carefully, but many have joined the United States, Britain, and Germany in supplying weapons, and now even tanks, to Ukraine's military and militia forces defending the country and its prewar population of 34 million people.

Some 5 million Ukrainians have fled and more than that number have been displaced inside the country.

Radev questioned Petkov's trip to Kyiv, expressing concerns about the Bulgarian "national interest" and suggesting he should formulate the "sovereign Bulgarian position" instead.

In Ukraine on April 28, Petkov pushed back, reassuring reporters that his alliance will vote for providing Ukraine's defenders with military assistance.

Petkov's party colleague Vassilev, who is also deputy prime minister, leveled a blunt response to Radev's criticisms a day earlier.

"The position of pretending that there is no aggressor in this war does not work. We are not looking for conflict, we are not looking for war, but when it comes to our doorstep, we will meet it and repel the aggressor," Vassilev said.

He called Radev's suggestion that arming Ukraine merely perpetuated the war "disgraceful."

"It is disgraceful because it implies that Russia will win this conflict and that it is normal and good for Russia to win this conflict," Vassilev said. "I believe that Ukraine will win this conflict and that we must help Ukraine win this conflict."

Vassilev said the alternative was "first for Ukraine and then for the whole of Eastern Europe to become vassal appendages again, which this government will not allow."

the  youngest  dragomir  was  the  most  excitable  of  them  all,  nor  was  she  surprised  at  her  sister's  excitement  -  it  was  a  new  place,  and  with  it  left  most  in  a  similar  state.  not  one  the  high  lady  would  quite  understand,  not  entirely,  conditioned  in  her  role  to  perceive  most  things  as  a  threat,  alina  could  hardly  feel  excitement.  while  the  tales  of  a  lost  court  had  made  its  way  through  the  summer  court,  knowing  of  it  and  and  it  actually  existing  were  two  very  different  things.  fables  or  not,  this  thing  was  created  by  something  that  certainly  did  not  prove  to  be  friendly.  the  longer  this  chaos  went  about,  she  feared  their  own  mother  had  been  captured  by  this  court's  creator.  when  julissa's  hand  finds  alina,  as  always  the  high  lady  is  surprised  when  any  of  them  make  contact  with  her,  not  something  that  was  common  among  the  dragomirs,  and  not  something  alina  ever  initiated  after  being  isolated  from  them  all  her  childhood  and  adolescent  years.  alina's  own  hand  curls  around  her  littlest  sister's,  seeking  the  familiarity  the  gestured  offered.  "marvelous  is  not  the  word  i  would  use  to  describe  an  unknown  court,  sister."  her  words  frank,  but  not  unkind,  "we  do  not  know  them,  julie,  do  not  presume  to  think  they  are  friends  or  even  allies  to  us.  "  they  had  not  known  yet  if  they  were  welcoming  to  the  rest  of  prythian.  "we  do  not  know  their  intentions,  as  well."  perhaps  it  was  excessive  paranoia,  but  she  would  take  that  above  assuming  these  faes  would  be  gentile.  listening  to  the  her  sister  continue  to  speak  so  excitedly  of  this  court,  spurred  by  her  mother's  tales,  alina  doubted  anything  she  said  would  diminish  the  other's  wonder.  it  was  not  that  she  had  intended  to  dampen  her  siblings  delight,  but  more  so  to  remind  them  to  proceed  with  caution  and  to  not  assume  these  faes  could  be  trusted. 

"well, i  am  glad  one  of  us  can  enjoy  these  morbid  skies."  she  would  not  pretend  she  liked  it,  nothing  would  compare  to  the  bright  skies  of  their  summer  court.  certainly,  the  dusk  skies  were  striking,  but  it  was  not  the  summer  sun,  or  their  blue  skies.  "you  mother  always  had  riveting  tales."  every  now  then  when  she  could  sneak  away  from  her  father,  alina  would  listen  in  from  time  to  time,  or  the  moments  julissa's  mother  shared  them  with  alina.  the  high  lady  much  preferred  for  them  to  remain  as  such  -  only  tales.  "i'm  fine,  you  do  not  need  worry  about  me,  ever.  are  you?"

Her head snaps in her sisters direction both relieved and happy to see her, she is quick to shorten the distance between the two, halting at the idea of throwing herself on her high lady and squeezing her tightly instead the younger one settles for simply taking her hand, bright wide smile on display, excitement in her eyes. "but look were we woke up, the dusk court, alina. is it marvelous that they are still here? i'm sure they have so much to tells us and possibly many questions too." she begins to ramble, missing entirely the sternest and worry embedded in her sisters brow. "it is pretty here, as if everything is a shade of gold with the hue of their sun. the dusk court used to be my barite fable as a child, did you know? my mother used to tell me tales of beast and golden lights. i could've continued to hear them every night even as a grown fae woman if it wasn't because my mother refused to." she muses. "sorry, i am rambling again, are you well? did you awake safely?"

PERSONALITY:

Lena is a caring and loving person, she is rather a mother friend to the crew due to her kind-hearted personality. She mostly smiles and brings everyone's hopes up throughout the journey. Just like her Ultimis counterpart, she is intelligent and serious. Although she is quite innocent to look at, she seems to hide something from her crew, something she never talks about much. Lena always hides her real emotions, that being sadness and guilt. She tends to imagine seeing her late parents whenever she experiences a near-death situation or even remembering the pain she felt when she lost her lover during the war. There are time she experiences nightmares about the incident or any episodes of not being herself in front of the others. She is stuck in a limbo of her own sadness, feeling that she couldn't save anyone she holds dear to her heart. That is why she always throw her life at risk to save her crew from any harm.

BACKGROUND:

Lena was born in Tondo, Manila to a loving family. Being the only child, she tends to dream about having a little sister to play with. Whenever she and her parents were in Ermita, she would go to the National Library of the Philippines to read books while waiting for her parents in Ermita. Due to reading a lot, she became interested in Literature and History as it also made her intelligent. She also begins to learn Spanish with the help of her father and Japanese from her mother. All is well for Lena as something will change her life with a disaster. She found out that her father was helping the Katipuneros as she also overheard him and a Katipunero having a conversation about the organization being found out by the curate of Tondo as they were being hunted down by the Spanish troops. When the time happened, her mother hid her in a closet as Lena kept quiet. All she could hear were the cries of her mother begging the Spanish troops about her father being innocent and not having any relations with the Katipunan. She heard gunshots, screams of both parties and suspected Katipunan members being captured. The closet was ajar and saw a glimpse of her mother, lying on the ground lifelessly with a pool of blood coming out from her body. Her father tried to fight back as he saw Lena in the closet, she ran out of the closet as she got a graze on her neck by a stray bullet. She couldn't react to her wound as her uncle Felipe quickly saved her together with his lieutenant Luis Villamor who became Lena's friend and a brother figure. The last time she saw her parents were now dead as their house was being burned down. She cries as Felipe tries to treat her wound and leaves Tondo on horseback. After the incident, Lena was taken care of by her uncle and aunt Rosalina and met her cousins Dolores and Marcelo in San Nicholas. While trying to cope with the death of her parents, Felipe taught her how to shoot, and wield a bolo knife while Rosalina taught her how to speak English, German, and Russian, and told her stories about how her father and mother met. Felipe also fears that she would get involved in any conflicts for the country's freedom and him being part of the Philippine Revolutionary Army with the rank of Captain. On her birthday, Felipe gifted her 2 novels, The Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, and Rosalina gave her a teddy bear which she named Nick. During her time in San Nicholas, she met Tulio Diaz, Alfonso de Guzman, and Faye Hernandez which she befriended with. Rosalina enrolled her in a religious school during her youth. in college, Lena then went to study at the University of Santo Tomas to study medicine and finished her degree. After graduating from college, she became a nurse and worked for 3 years before moving to the US to continue working there and build a future in a foreign country. When the US was involved in WW1, she joined the Army Nurse Corps and met her soon-to-be lover Sgt. George Huxley. After the war, she found out her lover died during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and kept his dog tag with her while arriving in Northern France to spy and collect details about the technology Group 935 has to offer. She met Richtofen and the others and joined them in their journey to collect their counterparts' souls.

SAINT OF THE DAY (September 28)

On September 28, the Catholic Church honors Saint Wenceslaus, a Central European ruler who died at the hands of his brother while seeking to strengthen the Catholic faith in his native Bohemia.

During his 2009 visit to the Czech Republic, Pope Benedict XVI called the country's patron saint “a martyr for Christ who had the courage to prefer the kingdom of heaven to the enticement of worldly power.”

Wenceslaus was born around the year 903. His father, Duke Wratislaw, was a Catholic, but his mother, Princess Dragomir, practiced the native pagan religion.

She would later arrange the murders of both Wenceslaus and his grandmother Ludmilla, who is also a canonized saint.

During his youth, Wenceslaus received a strong religious education from Ludmilla, in addition to the good example of his father.

He maintained a virtuous manner of living while attending college near Prague, making significant progress both academically and spiritually.

But with the death of his father, the devout young nobleman faced a spiritual and political crisis.

His mother Dragomir, who had never accepted the Catholic faith, turned against it entirely.

She seized her husband's death as a chance to destroy the religion his parents had received from Saints Cyril and Methodius, through methods that included purging Catholics from public office, closing churches, and preventing all teaching of the faith.

Ludmilla urged Wenceslaus to seize power from his mother and defend their faith.

His attempt to do so resulted in the division of the country into two halves: one ruled by Wenceslaus, advised by Ludmilla; the other ruled by Wenceslaus' younger brother Boleslaus, who had absorbed his mother's hatred of the Church.

Wenceslaus, who would have preferred to become a monk and not a duke, fortified himself in this struggle through fervent prayer, extreme asceticism, charitable service, and a vow of chastity.

Meanwhile, his mother carried out a plot to kill Ludmilla, having her strangled in her private chapel.

St. Ludmilla's liturgical feast day is September 16.

The Bohemian duke also faced the threat of invasion from abroad when Prince Radislaus of Gurima demanded that Bohemia submit to his rule.

When Wenceslaus sought to avoid a war by challenging him in single combat, two angels are said to have appeared, deflecting the javelin thrown at Wenceslaus and immediately inspiring Radislaus to drop to his knees in surrender.

During his period of rule, Wenceslaus received the relics of several saints from the Holy Roman Emperor Otto I, who also conferred on him the title of “King Wenceslaus.”

But some noblemen of his own country resented the saintly king's strict morals and allied themselves with Dragomir and Boleslaus.

Wenceslaus' brother sought to appear as a peacemaker, inviting the king to his realm for a celebration.

When Wenceslaus was praying in a chapel during the visit, Boleslaus' henchmen attacked and wounded him.

Boleslaus himself delivered the final blow, killing his brother by running him through with a lance.

Wenceslaus died on 28 September 935.

Emperor Otto responded to Wenceslaus' death by invading Bohemia and making war against Boleslaus for several years.

He succeeded in conquering the region and forced Boleslaus to reverse the anti-Catholic measures he and his mother had taken.

There is no evidence that Dragomir, who died soon after the murder of Wenceslaus, ever repented of killing her family members.

Boleslaus, however, came to regret his sin when he learned of the miracles that were taking place at his brother's tomb.

He moved Wenceslaus' body to a cathedral for veneration by the faithful.

They ready their guns and bows and I scramble out of the way, nearly caught in the crossfire. My heart shudders at their intense focus on their task, as if they would have shot regardless of if I moved or not.

The first person whistles again, and a chorus of shots erupt.

Fire

I move to get a better look.

A short line of male and female courtiers stand side by side, some holding rifles, and some bow and arrows. One lets out a whistle and they all fire their weapons, releasing more sounds of ruckus.

Friend

“The kingdoms fought before?” I know this but in the third Dragomir’s time? So long ago?

Goldie scoffs, “As if they ever got along. The witch mountains have been their own best friend since the beginning of time. I don’t know of any place that hasn’t fought with them.”

Foe

“She said you felt out of place in the castle, and needed guidance. The best advice to give is to make allies amongst the foes.”

“What foes?”

[Naida] gives a dry chuckle, “Unless you are of use to them, everyone is against you.”
